Meet community members, make friends, and help our Edmonds Historical Museum grow and prosper!
There are many ways to volunteer. Without our Friends of the Museum, we would not have this kind of well-functioning and vibrant institution. Look down the list here and find what works for you. You will find welcoming people who will be happy for you to join them in whatever project they are doing. For more information, call Caitlin Kelly (collection manager) at 425-774-0900.
You can become a docent. Docents work one shift a month at the Museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. You will be trained by another docent, learn more about our Museum and have access to books full of information for answering questions from the public.
Help us research, design, fabricate, plan and implement various exhibits throughout the year. We can always use help and inspiration in this area. Do you have an exhibit idea you’d like to share with us? Contact us today.
You can help with the Spring Garden Market or Summer Market. Our market in Edmonds is a fundraiser for the Museum and Historical Society. The market has one paid employee and everything else is done by our wonderful and dedicated volunteers. You can help by working at the White Elephant Booth selling donated items, either for a morning shift or an afternoon shift on summer Saturdays. You can also help price donated items. We especially need strong-bodied people to help set up the White Elephant Booth early on Saturday mornings or take down the booth and repack the truck at the end of the day. Anyone who volunteers at the market is invited to attend the End-of-Summer-Market-Party with pizza and refreshments served. Call Margaret Wilcox at 425-776-7201.
Each year we need able-bodied volunteers to participate in our holiday events. Volunteers are needed to take our prize-winning Fourth of July float apart for storage after the parade. You can ride in the float as well! Both levels of the Museum are decorated by volunteers for the Christmas holiday in a mellow old-fashioned manner. In addition, we need people to help serve popcorn on the evening Santa visits the town of Edmonds and Toys for Tots toy drive for less fortunate children from our community. The Museum gets haunted for Halloween time and we needs lots of volunteers to run it. Are you interested in being a witch, ghost, pirate, or any other character of your choice? How about decorating the Museum to be a ‘kid-friendly’ haunted house or helping with the Scarecrow Festival? We always need able-bodied people to set up and take down the Black Cat Café, too.
If you have an interest in education and taking our history trunk to schools to teach a bit about Edmonds history, we could use your help. The trunk is packed with hands-on artifacts showing some of the history of the town and a lesson-plan manual with all the information you might need. A great fit for retired teachers.
Do you have an exciting interest, hobby, or ability you could share with us? The Museum is always looking for other skills like carpentry, painting, marketing, public relations, editing Newsletter, research, art, education, and help with public community programs. Let us know what you have to offer and we will find a way to accommodate it. You might even consider a Board of Governors’ position in the future, helping to make decisions for the Edmonds Historical Museum and the Historical Society. Feel free to contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
