Volunteer With Us!

We love our volunteers.DOCENTS – You can become a docent.  Docents work one shift a month at the Museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.  You will be trained by another docent, learn more about our Museum and have access to books full of information for answering questions from the public.

EXHIBITS – Help us research, plan and implement various exhibits throughout the year.  We can always use help and inspiration in this area. Do you have an exhibit idea you’d like to share with us?  Contact us today.

SUMMER MARKET – You can help with the Summer Market.  Our market in Edmonds is a fundraiser for the Museum and Historical Society.  The market has one paid employee and everything else is done by volunteers.  You can help by working at the White Elephant Booth selling donated items, either for a morning shift or an afternoon shift on summer Saturdays.  You can also help price donated items. We especially need strong-bodied people to help set up the White Elephant Booth early on Saturday mornings or take down the booth and repack the truck at the end of the day. Anyone who volunteers at the market is invited to attend the End-of-Summer-Market-Party with pizza and refreshments served. Call Margaret Wilcox at 425-776-7201.

Other volunteersHOLIDAYS – Each year we need able-bodied volunteers to participate in our holiday events.  Volunteers are needed to take our prize-winning Fourth of July float apart for storage after the parade.  You can ride in the float as well!   Both levels of the Museum are decorated by volunteers for the Christmas holiday in a mellow old-fashioned manner. In addition we need people to help serve popcorn on the evening Santa visits the town of Edmonds.  The Museum gets haunted at Halloween time and we needs lots of volunteers to run it.  Are you interested in being a witch, ghost, or any other character of your choice?  How about decorating the Museum to be a ‘friendly’ haunted house? We always need able-bodied people to set up and take down the Black Cat Café, too.

GUILD – You can join the Guild.  The Rosabel Semon Guild, named after its founder, meets at the Museum at 11 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month from September to June. The Guild supports the Museum by raising funds to purchase one unbudgeted item a year chosen by our Museum Director.  It also has speakers at some of the meetings, often complementing the current exhibits, provides refreshments for exhibit openings and also honors all the volunteers of the Museum with an Appreciation Tea in May with entertainment.  If you’d like to join the Guild, call Darlene Newquist at 425-744-1561.

TRUNK TALES – Educate. If you have an interest in taking our history trunk to schools to teach a bit about Edmonds history, we could use your help.  The trunk is packed with hands-on artifacts showing some of the history of the town and a manual with all the information you need.  A great fit for retired teachers.

OTHER – Do you have an exciting interest, hobby, or ability you could share with us?  The Museum is always looking for other skills like carpentry, painting and helping to mount an exhibit.  Let us know what you have to offer.  You might even consider a Board of Governors’ position in the future, helping to make decisions for the Edmonds Museum and Historical Society.
